Autobiographies can be both inspiring and dispiriting. We are encouraged by how the great ones triumphed over adversity, yet we lament at how often we fail under pressure. Tony Robbins says about his journey ‘Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain.’ The problem is, that conveys a sort of distilled heroism, with the doubts removed.
It's not how it is in real life- We don’t often dance in the rain, rather we simply do our best to not get the flu because of it! The truth is, even so-called great ones achieved it only through fear, doubt, testing and hardship, and any story of their lives which omits such things is fake news.
Don’t be discouraged by imagining that others are bench pressing 400 pounds without breaking a sweat while you’re struggling. Know you’re not the only one who can’t seem to enjoy repeated victories day in day out.
